It's like, "Sure, let's just cater to the logical ends brought on by these mental ailments. Depressed people who feel worthless will be tossed into garbage incinerators. We will employ secret protection for paranoid schizophrenics. Kleptomaniacs and hoarders can keep all of their things forever. Any and all addicts will be sustained with their substance of choice, or cash for gambling addiction. Anyone who considers themselves to be God will be obeyed."
Now that this conversion stuff has apparently become medically acceptable, it may never "go back." If research in human modification is continually funded, and they "cancel" any future study of negative outcomes for the "fully" converted, it's over.
