Seeing manipulation is part of it, but the other part is deciding whether or not the manipulation OK if you believe it's serving positive ends. It is possible to be fully aware of the manipulation going on and conclude that it's OK because the ends are good. Politicians and bureaucrats do this all the time.
Yeah, the biggest problem for leftists is their inability to see 10 years into the future or the consequences of their utopia.
They don't understand, for example, climate change policies may "save" the earth in some vague portion of the future, but will DISPROPORTIONATELY HURT THE WORKING CLASS because of increased costs and decreased availability - the same working class they CLAIM to be defending.
