They probably aren't actually doing this other than a handful of guys. The propaganda war is crazier than anything happening on the ground. Even the classic story out of the British Dum Dum arsenal was a psyop to dissuade the rebels from using captured ammunition.
I mean I've never tried it, because why the fuck, but I can easily imagine that little straight in and out dib-dab on lard leaves almost nothing actually on the bullet. But still I imagine it's all just theater anyway.
This seems like a really stupid way to jam your gun.

I'm sure of that. Competent soldiers aren't going to intentionally jam their guns.

I suppose it depends on the consistency of the lard.
Well given it's February in Ukraine and he's wearing a balaclava inside (I know), I'm guessing a consistency just slightly softer than lead.
I guess they're banking on the AK's purported reliability.
Not sure that's a wise choice myself, either. It is pretty reliable, but why take the piss?
I feel like it would work for a while, but it could dry, get hard, and even burn at a certain point.
I'm no subject matter expert by any means but I think it's fine.
You can see the rounds they're not slathered in grease, just a lite coating and just the tip.
Plus, they're shooting cheap, dirty steel rounds. If the AK can handle the lacquer coated on those things a little grease aint gonna do nothing.
That was my immediate thought- surely that's going to have some kind of affect on the ballistics or at least cause some issues with residue build-up.
Also, enemy units will be attracted to your position by the smell of what appears to be bacon.
"Vitali, that last guy you killed ... ?"
"Yes?"
"Was he shouting 'For Russia' or "For rashers'?"
"I don't think it matters, Wladimir"
