Well, if war is how an apex predator culls itself, then modern warfare philosophy is just as bass-ackwards as modern wildlife management philosophy, in which the best and strongest and boldest get culled, rather than the freaks, geeks and losers. Rejecting crazies and murderers from an army actively at war never made sense to me. Sure, you'd need some normals to control them, but they'd rightly be the manipulative psychopaths that would otherwise slip into politics, or worse (schools or seminaries, for instance) ....
So it makes sense to finally get it together and attract all the dross you want to get rid of by pretending you're doing it because you love them. Then put the cold psychopaths in charge of them, and use them to demoralize the Russian and Chinese "chads" who might be demoralized at being shot at by these circus freaks.
