Don't forget that the Lebanese civil war was caused by them letting in a bunch of muslims ("palestinians") who increased the islamic population enough in their favour that they thought it was time to attempt a takeover.
If France, or any other country, lets in enough muslims, that is exactly what is going to happen to them also. Islam commands muslims to not accept non-islamic rule.
The Palestinians were sponsored by Iraq (even before Saddam's coup), Syria (but Syria later fought them in Lebanon, where just everyone fought each other at different times), and Libya. Iran eventually too, after the Islamic Revolution.
Add to that Jordania, which had massacred and expelled them (the Black September). Not support, but run them to Lebanon at gunpoint.
Trying and failing to destroy Israel within hours of its independence is the kind of thing that emboldens Islamist hardliners who think they should take over and do it themselves.
You give them too much credit. They wish they were this influential and powerful. No, the Saudis and Iran pretty much destroyed what was left after the British withdrew and Turkey stopped providing cover.
Like I said a while back: Lebanon used to be the Paris of the Orient, and now Paris is the Beirut of the Occident.

You're forgetting the hair brained carving up of the middle east after WW1.
