Japanese trading and pharmaceutical company Kowa Co Ltd (7807.T) said on Monday anti-parasite drug ivermectin showed an "antiviral effect" against Omicron and other variants of coronavirus in joint non-clinical research.
Damn Japs trying to kill people with a cheap, generic therapeutic with minimal side effects.
Don't call them therapeutics. Therapeutics are vaccines now according to updated definitions, but we can't have people think generic drugs could be safe and effective.
I have a friend of a friend with a doctorate in a medical adjacent field who insists Ivermectin doesn't work because it's an anti-parasitic not an anti-viral. Big fucking brain on him. Have you told the molecule that? Gender is a spectrum but a molecule apparently can only be one thing. "Oh shit, I was about to bond with this spike protein but that would be off label use- better keep looking for parasites."
Anyone who says that Ivermectin has no antiviral properties better tell that to an article from Nature published back in 2015 I believe. It was heralded as a wonder drug, and it’s inventor got a damn Nobel Prize for it because it is so efficacious at addressing multiple different illnesses caused by a variety of different infectious agents.
Remember guys, the people who published obviously fraudulent research (Surgisphere) to discredit Ivermectin didn't simply disappear.
What likely happened is they changed tactics -- If you wanted to spread doubt about the effectiveness of the product, wouldn't it be really effective to claim it was a "miracle cure" with some contrived studies, and then debunk your own studies to undermine the faith of people in this treatment?

Japan has been using it since August, after noticing the success in Africa. The inventor is also Japanese.
Longer than that. Since early-ish 2021.

Don't the new anti-COVID pills have the same mechanism as Ivermectin?
Both the aprouved Pfized pill and Ivermectin are protease inhibitors.
It's a total mystery as to where Pfizer got the idea to repurpose one of their patented protease inhibitor drugs into an anti-viral. /s
They've been using it unofficially since 2021 when their head doctor recommended it and it's easier to get there than here in human medicine form.

Japan's been using it for a long time during the pandemic and their rates have been consistently low.
HMM, I WONDER WHY.
