Epic gained their prominence without Chinese money. Tencent did not make a 40% investment into Epic until 2012. And any major decision made by epic is done so at the will of Tim Sweeney, if it also benefits Tencent it’s because it made epic money and therefore Tencent Owned shares go up. Tim does what Tim thinks will make him the most money. He doesn’t care all that much about the consumer unless it’s something he can try to market as a selling point to buy their product. See his recent tweets calling out apple’s manufacturing in China while ignoring himself selling a little under half of his company to a Chinese tech company in bed with ccp intelligence. If Tim wanted to he could probably say enough anti Chinese stuff to get the ccp to force Tencent to sell their holdings. But the idea that Tencent or the ccp is spearheading free speech through Time Sweeney and Epic is a ridiculous thought.

No, they're spearheading ignoring platform rules to make money.
They're motivated by the opportunity for higher revenues.
However, if platform rules are legally struck down and phone companies have to make sideloading easy and safe - it will help free speech by simply removing the Apple/Google layer of control.
How about we don’t have government force companies to put back doors into their platforms for the sake of side loading. If Tim really thought it was a good idea he would have epic put out their own android based os with the google play store removed along with the warning for installing outside the play store.
Nothing says freedom like your government forcing you to change how your store operates to allow a competitor in on the platform you built. No one buys an iPhone and is shocked that it’s a walled garden. And android is already open.
