I used to see a lot of stories like this on Reddit; “family forgives son’s killer”, “woman befriends brother’s murderer”, etc. Nine times out of ten the family would be White and the killer would be Black.

Redditors would jerk themselves raw over these stories of course, about how inspiring they were and how they showed there was no limit to compassion and forgiveness but I fucking hated it, they only felt that way because they felt sorry for these old black men who would have slit their throat for a nickel twenty years ago.
