I saw a pretty funny article about why Yellowstone was so popular. I wasn't going to click on it, but since it was the AV Club I told myself that it's almost a guarantee that somewhere in the article would be some attack about how white people like it. Of course I wasn't wrong. The writer of the article couldn't understand how the show was so popular when it didn't have much buzz online. Of course as you know they couldn't resist whining about the lack of diversity because in current year a good show is determined by diversity/inclusion.
Yellowstone, Better Call Saul, and Blue Bloods are pretty much the only non-animated current shows I watch. I haven't seen 1883 because I am not getting paramount plus for one show and also because they suck with modern day Star Trek.
I used to think networks and streaming services would see the popularity of Yellowstone or Blue Bloods as a lesson but I was wrong. Hallmark had great ratings and gave their demographic what they wanted, but they have foolishly listened to the morons on social media and now it looks like there will be gay side characters and they are already complaining that it isn't enough. Hopefully Yellowstone won't cave, but I think the next season will be the last.
As someone who loves Leave it to Beaver and Father Knows Best I could almost guarantee a show made today that celebrates the traditional family would do well. However it would do well with the "wrong people".
True. I still haven’t seen most of the last season. It’s on my DVR but I get your point. The black ranch hands are believable since ranch hands are nomadic as part of the job. I hope the sheriff doesn’t give the all too familiar “being black in America” speech. I know Californians have moved to Montana but generally I’d expect to see whites and natives.
Thanks for the warning. I heard the next season will be the last so I hope that isn’t the case.
For sure! I live in Texas in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. I love Texas but want to move further out eventually. I have to work in the office twice a week so that helps with gas. A lot of Californians have moved to the state. To be fair quite a few are conservatives but a lot of businesses are moving to the state from California and that brings jobs but also leftists.
Californians are flooding western Montana?
Pisses me off. These lefties created California, they should stay.
I only know Dallas Ft Worth Area but Tarrant County is less Liberal than Dallas county but if you are totally remote and can move further out there is Haslet, Justin, Mineral Wells, Decatur. In the metroplex I live in the HEB area and Keller, Frisco, and Plano have nice areas.
That is true. I guess I should have emphasized that in comparison to today's standards. I am only one episode into the most recent season and have the rest recorded. I do like Beth Dutton, but you make a great point. Honestly you could talk about tribal women or have strong female characters if it wasn't for the fact that they can't shut up about it and it seems like any modern day female character only exists to show how much better than men she is.
For a show made in these times that is a massive endorsement. I have the last season recorded. Will get to it soon
The first season of Yellowstone was full of "natives deserve their land back" bullshit. Monica is literally a SJW, who said "oppressing people was a uniquely European trait". The show used CNN as a news source several times too. Defense of ones land is probably the based thing about it.
True. I guess my standard for a good show in current year has dropped big time
Larry Mondello was da bomb, everybody knew that kid.
I haven't watched a ton of Leave it to Beaver. One episode I did catch had Beaver do something that got him a stern talking to by Ward. Next scene has Ward and June in the kitchen the next morning. First line of the scene is June saying:
"Ward, you sure were rough on the Beaver last night."
I wasn't expecting that and had one of the best laughs in a long time.
So true
Haha what a bunch of egotistical pricks the access media are. "How did you know about this show? We aren't even promoting it!"
And I swear they have no clue what people like outside LA and NYC it seems
Watched a shitton of Leave it to Beaver over Christmas. I was surprised at how funny and, well, good it was. Certainly wasn't the caricature the last few decades of pop culture played it up to be.
Not at all. They love to mock it. There must be a reason it’s still running in syndication
Can't say I've ever seen it. I don't have cable so basically, anything I watch is on DVD. We've been smart enough to get DVD sets of all the shows we like so things like Green Acres, Leave it to Beaver, Hogan's Heroes, Dragnet, and tons of other stuff but I don't recall seeing George and Gracie.
Oh! Green Acres is another great one that loves to break the fourth wall. It's so easy to forget that people back then were just as smart (probably moreso) as us and found they could miss with the conventions of the media they worked in. Goes to show how myopic we are today.
Burns and Allen. Yeah, that was always a classic, and so was The Jack Benny Show.
And hell, if you want a more recent show that is almost exactly like these two shows (breaking the fourth wall and all), then look up It's Garry Shandling's Show. And if you can find it, Bizarre feat. Jon Byner. Or for that goddamn matter, The Carol Burnett Show.
I grew up with this stuff being on TV all the time.
