Unless your retirement plans feature a loaded pistol and an unmarked grave, you need children. If it is within your means to have children and raise them as good, moral people, you should, because you need good, moral people to grow your crops and protect you from the barbarians at the gate once you're too old to do it yourself.

I don't know what you consider the meaning of life and your ultimate goal, but in the real world, the goal isn't to mindlessly consume in a hedonistic way, but to raise and nurture your offspring. The only reason someone shouldn't have and raise children is if that person either has a major genetic defect that would negatively impact his or her children, which is an understandable and unfortunate reality, or otherwise that person is just a colossal jackass who would inevitably kill or otherwise neglect a child, a perpetual adolescent, and that lifestyle is selfish.
