Why not both? Obscure, weird historic stuff and also anime.
(There is an anime about people during the Russo-Japanese war. The creator is oddly and endearingly obsessed with Ainu cuisine.)
There is nothing wrong with enjoying multiple different things. If anything, I find it refreshing to go from one topic or medium to the next.
