Microprose!?
Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time.
Yeah, got my attention immediately.
They just published Highfleet, too.
Fantastic game that. Last time I played I got filtered hard but damn it's fun, I really like how the game doesn't hold your hand, and I really really like the setting and aesthetic.
Incidentally, I took a small tiiiiny bit of pride in that I discovered a game completely on my own before Sseth covered it. Also was talking to friends about it and how sseth should cover it. Lol
It was revived by a co-founder (not Sid Meier, the retired fighter pilot guy).
And so far, their stuff has been damn good. Not much is out yet, but the stuff that is is some of the best strategy gaming I have had in years.
Seriously, same logo and everything.
It's like I'm back in CompUSA and dreaming of the day I can buy a computer that can play Age of Mythology.
One of the first games I've ever played when we got our first PC was X-COM: Apocalypse, published by Microprose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InUQ1TebMGk
It's been over 2 decades by now but I still fucking hate Poppers and Hyperworms. Seriously, fuck those things.
At the start of a new game I used to equip as many agents as I could with Megapol Autocannons loaded with explosive ammo. Missions inside munitions factories were incredibly entertaining, the owners (Marsec, I think?) were always really mad at me for ruining the place because a single stray shot could set the whole floor on fire, and there were a lot of stray shots because why would I take aimed shots? My guy has a handheld Gatling gun and EXPLOSIVE AMMUNITION!
Also I never actually finished the game, because after a while you can research Toxiguns, which are amazingly effective against aliens, but they don't cause explosions or incredible civilian casualties, and that's just boring. They're basically hi-tech blowguns.
I solved the problem of "one last alien" by equippling people with unlimited ammo alien guns and sawing through all of the building supports until the whole thing came down
They appear to be going for a comeback... I cant wait and tbh havent been this excited for a game in years.

He's left back in early 1990s after MP was first bought by Spectrum Holobyte (who then canceled X-COM when it was still under development, just nobody told the devs and so they finished the game - management chaos was hilarious in the years before Hasbro and even more so later).
