The government wants you dependent on them for everything, otherwise you realize you never needed them.
The people of Australia have done it to themselves... begged for it even. They have a very tangible culture there of, whenever something goes wrong, everyone collectively crying "the govt must do something!". Every single time.
And their blind faith in the media and their happy acceptance of NPC programming is terrifying.
