Kyle's "friend" worked with the DA and testified against Kyle in what is an obvious quid pro quo to get a lesser charge via plea deal. Yeah officially that deal isn't on record but no lawyer is going to tell their client to incriminate themselves in a court without there being an upside to doing so.

You can defend your self but you cannot own a gun or posses a gun for the purpose of self defense. You can use a gun to defend your self at the time your being battered tho if it is in the vicinity.
