To be fair, he didn't report himself lost, someone else did. He didn't even know there was a search crew. He was only gone a day, and he made it back to his car by himself. If he'd actually been in trouble, he would have picked up the phone.
There was an article posted on win about a month ago maybe, I think on the news forum. It was about one of them and then mentioned that it was happened before and mentioned the other.
My first thought was how much of an idiot can this guy be? Thinking about it more though, if his phone worked, and he knew it worked, then he could have called for help. Since he didn't, I'll just presume he didn't need any help. Being that they found their way out without help, I guess they were just fine.
If you don't know what direction NSEW are: the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. That's all you need to know to never get lost.
A compass weighs very little and it takes just a few minutes to learn how to use one. A map often weighs even less, and should be carried with you as well.
I, for one, can relate to this. The sheer amount of robocalls I receive daily, most of the time from numbers suspiciously close to mine, has caused me to stop answering for numbers I don’t have saved in my phone. It does not end.
If the first 2 two numbers after the extension match my own phone number, I ignore it. I figure if someone really needs to talk to me, they will leave a message, or at least they should leave a message.

Almost sounds like that story about a walker going "missing" and ending up joining their own rescue search.
The drunk Turk? That dude was hilarious. They are running around the woods looking. He realises they are looking for him. He screams "I'm here".
Might be a different one as have heard a story based about a women hiker, too.
Then again not the craziest thing to ever happen so happening again isn't the worst loop in this timeline.

Dude just wanted to camp.

You have too much faith in people's map reading abilities. Compass is good too, so long as the Blair Witch doesn't mess with it or something.

Your NPC buddies are just trying to install an update.
