Maybe just in a red state, but I haven't heard anyone IRL act like the rioters were anything but criminal thugs. I don't think anyone around here is confused. Afraid? Probably. See, at the best of times there's lots of criminal thugs running around. And they're almost all black. "BLM" is just a slightly more organized version of their normal.
