Hell, I make a point to give my dog and cat some milk and cheese at least once a week so they don't go lactose intolerant.
The secret to making powdered mashed potatoes edible is to use milk instead of water.
It even works with boiling pasta!
That's a secret? Around here all powdered mashed potatoes use milk and water.
Oh and don't forget some butter.
Just don't give the cats cream. It doesn't end well. Well, it does happen at the end, but it's messy.
I just add a half stick of butter. I will try milk. I never thought to try milk because they already have powdered milk in most instant mash potatoes but I bet they skimp to cut costs.
Yeah, it makes a big difference (and yeah, I throw in some butter, too.) I use whole milk, though. We're both kind of skinny, so we can get away with shit like this.
Is powdered mashed potatoes that popular? I've only had it as a kid a few times and mashed potatoes is crazy easy to make, I'm the one that prepares it my family. I just can't see myself making powdered mashed potatoes.
While I do a lot of cooking, I don't always keep fresh potatoes around.
I keep a variety of kinds of potato in the freezer (fries, perogies, tater tots/hash browns) so I generally only get fresh ones specifically to use right away. The powdered ones are for short-order meals, like burgers and stuff like that. There's only two of us, and we don't eat a lot as it is.
