They pretty much all pracriced slavery with war prisoners, it's just how societies work at that level. Even progressives like Joseph Brant couldn't wrap their heads around not owning slaves.

Oh, and there was no such thing as "buying land" before Europeans showed up. Just constant war over territory, like every other pre-capitalist society.
