Never give money to people who hate you, even if it's indirectly by supporting people you like. Exceptions might be things you need to live, but entertainment is definitely NOT one of those exceptions.
Let me put it to you this way:
I know someone who even after a company poured millions into woke causes, refuses to go and visit their store to this day after 8 years because he heard from his friend that they hate LGBT people.
9 out of 10 of the people on here and other non-woke sites don't have the will to do what he does. Who has the power in the modern day culture?
I personally am almost out of supporting the game industry, but I find myself strangely alright with it. It gives me more time to focus on improving other things like my faith, body, and expanding my knowledge in other subjects.
edit It hasn't happened yet, but if a company starts to go woke, then backtracks (with actual sincerity), I think it's alright to purchase from them again. Forgiveness is a lost art in the modern age.
Is the harm of giving Square-Enix money outweighed by the benefits of supporting the wonderful games Yoko Taro makes?
No. You can always find someone worthy of supporting without having to compromise; whether that's movies, music, anime, manga, eroge, or whatever, there's no limit to the opportunities to part with your money.
Pirate or buy second hand if you must, but absolutely do not pre-order directly or otherwise support companies like SE. These kind loathe you, demean you, and go out of their way to insult you -- luckily they create extremely easily boycottable products.
Do not freely give up what is your premier act of disobedience. There's not much in your life you can control, but this is one of those few.
It is only acceptable to break a personal boycott if (a) the company somehow atones (extremely unlikely), or (b) the product they provide is a necessity and there is no viable competitor that isn’t equally boycott worthy.
The shit you’re asking about is video games I presume. That shit is not necessary for your survival so barring actual atonement there is no way they should ever come off your boycott list.
I've walked away from far better games than anything Square has made.
There's only one company I have some loyalty to, and that's CCP Games.
Why? Because frankly this is a company that has failed bigger and harder than any other games developer ever, to the point where their mistakes are hilarious as long as you remember to keep your client stopped for a few days after any major update, just in case.
EVE once rolled out an update that deleted boot.ini, and another update was so poorly optimized it was putting graphics cards into thermal shutdown.
Why shouldn't designer digital jeans cost as much as real ones?
They're learning tho. If they ever need more dough all they need to do is release Hazard Control skins for Caldari and Goons will splurge another hundred million.
Dust is dead, Valkyrie is dead. The graphics card thing was "walking in stations", which they were going to adapt to make the World of Darkness MMO, but that too is dead and White Wolf has been sold back off.
EVE right now is worse and better than ever.
The game meta is essentially bifurcated. At the small group level, the game has never been better. Between abyssal deadspace, pochven, and various changes to lowsec and wormholes, if you can get a few doods together to do a thing, you'll have a great time.
But nullwar is in a bad spot. Beeitnam illustrated the problems, that once again it's a defender's game and that the N+1 problem is still very much alive.
But to answer your specific question about why I'm not harder on CCP...
It's mere existence is a tacit admission that business in western democracies is over-regulated, for otherwise these people would be out there 1099'ing real bux instead of space bux.
I tend to let the media in question speak for itself. This generally results in my avoidance of EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and Sony, because they ruin everything. I probably have the closest to a boycott on Sony, but I do still play my PS4. I haven't bought from a Sony-owned studio since 2019 and I don't have PS+, but am I otherwise supposed to smash my PS4 to spite Sony? That's only harming me. My threshold is probably further than most, as I don't research every company to look for perfection but look more for something indicative of a company that just can't let anything stand that isn't up to wokeness standards.
That said, I never pre-order games and I almost never pay full price. I used to and learned my lesson a number of years ago. No dev has earned anywhere close to enough of my trust that I would pay for their game that's not even finished yet. My target is $10-$20 to buy a game. They aren't making much money off me.
Aye. Would still rank Forged Alliance as one of the best RTSes out there. A well-done sequel would be nice, but at this point I pretty much don't trust anyone to make it.

In the bad old days, everyone rolled achura because they had the lowest possible charisma score of 3.

It's because frankly this game and company have gone so far out there in terms of offending its own playerbase that normal reasoning no longer applies. Nobody plays EVE because they like EVE, they play EVE because they hate themselves. It's a game for people who already have their own shit in order so much that they look around for more self-flagelatory activities to pile onto their daily routine.

The only reason I'd have to break a boycott is if the company changes its actions and/or path.
If you want to support certain big creators, there are many venues to do so. Many have patreons, personal merchandise, or writing side-gigs.

Square is woke?
Shame, as Supreme Commander is a great game that needs a sequel.
My understanding is that parts of Square are woke and other parts are not woke. It's a combo with the woke starting to gain the upper hand.
The FF7 Remake? Pozzed to hell by Square & Soyny, buying that is def. supporting woke behaviors. Life is Strange should just be a no-brainer to avoid.
Other games seem to be fine for now, although we have danger zones that I won't even give attention to, as outrage sometimes fuels sales.
Life is Gay is Square's doing?
That filth alone is reason enough for me to avoid them.
