Gender dysphoria is not some trivial mental illness that you decide you have

Both the people I've met who decided they were the other gender were clearly pressured into it by a woman.

One was a guy in college who's girlfriend was into guys that looked like chicks. He went right up to the amputation / surgery but wouldn't do it as he was at least old enough to realize permanent scarring and amputation would fuck him up for life. At some point they broke up and I know he wasn't "really trans" because without the pressure from his girlfriend he chose to go back to being a guy.

The other was the high school age son of a coworker. I added her on facebook and she filled it with how crazy she was - around the time she pushed her ex-husband to suicide, her current fiance broke up with her, and she started posting feminist man-hating themes on facebook, her son - who had nowhere else to live - suddenly "decided" he was a trans-girl. No shit.

I honestly question whether gender disphoria - without pressure from external people - is actually a real thing.

What I'm certain of is that pushing it is driven by some people's desire to dominate and humiliate others.
