At this point accepting Epic's money is the same as them admitting they think the game is crap. If they thought their game was good enough to sell well on its own, then they would try to sell it on its own merits rather than needing guaranteed money upfront.
At least with small-time indies, especially with those releasing their first game, it's kind of understandable to make this deal with the Devil since it means you're getting what looks like a good chunk of cash up front. But for an established brand with a fanbase in the millions, it's just pathetic. You should understand at that point that Epic needs you a lot more than you need Epic. Unless you know something that you're not telling anyone of course.
It would be like movie studios paying cinemas NOT TO ALLOW anyone to watch their movies. Sure they get 'ticket money' up front, but also no one enjoys the movie, or goes to the sequel.
And I realized it's just as well that it looks like crap. They got an Epic Games logo at the end, but no Steam logo, and we all know what that means.
At least they were honest about that up front.
