Are boomers any more responsible for that than we are for the current situation? I don't exactly feel empowered to stop it.

For the majority, only by time spent voting for (or at least failing to overthrow) the crap politicians who are continuing this process. But the politicians themselves have been Boomers since the Clinton administration.
