Death Penalty being expensive is only a problem that liberals created because they think the absolute scum of the earth need to be killed in the most “humane” way of pumping them full of expensive chemicals. Christ, one shot to the head, shallow grave. Definitely costs less than 25 years of food and shelter.
Ok, except some people on death row have eventually been found innocent. There should be a balance.
That’s a completely fine justification of NOT having the death penalty. But, you either don’t have the death penalty because of that or you admit that the worst of the worst don’t deserve painless deaths.
I don't trust the criminal justice system to not kill innocent people, so I'd like those people to at least get a mercifully quick and painless death when it does happen. Call it a compromise.
I think if it’s impossible to be sure of innocence then you should not be possible to be sentenced to death, as one of the worst things a government can do is directly kill an innocent man. However there are some very clear cut cases (video+audio evidence and plea without coercion) where it should not matter and any execution that is quick and easy will do. I also agree with other people’s sentiment that firing squad can be more quick and painless and certainly cheaper than the shitshow that are lethal injections.
People should also not be imprisoned for life for something they didn't do. To me, the amount of appeals you get should have nothing to do with the sentence.
I'm still not sure what's exactly more humane about a chemical death. A shot to the head is pretty fucking instant if they do it right. Hanging I could see where an argument could be made, but a bullet.. not so much. Hell, the guillotine was pretty instant too, but that's more about the show of it than anything. Granted, the only thing I see that works in favor of chemical is that the cleanup a a hell of a lot easier.
I'd argue the guillotine is the most humane method, as long as the convict gets a bag over their head and a nice pillow.
Maybe not humane for the cleanup crew though.
It’s all optics. They’re supposedly paralyzed so there’s no thrashing about or whatever
True. The "humane" part of the execution was never made for the recipient. It's to make the people dishing it out feel better about themselves, while also pretending it isn't for them so they can also feel good about "doing the killed dude a favor." A double win. It's kinda sick.
If it were about being humane they'd just use anesthetics and then pump the poison in after the prisoner was knocked out.
That's not terribly far off from what a death by lethal injection is. Or if you already know more than me, you'd have to explain to me how what you're talking about is different.
Don’t care, there is no such thing as a humane death. We rip apart unborn babies piece by piece with forceps, there is no humane standard only a more expedient one.
Except the price comes from the appeals. Jesus, this is basic.
If you think someone COULD be innocent, why would killing them humanely be better than life imprisonment? They’re either clearly guilty of something completely heinous, in which case why care about their comfort, or there’s a possibility of innocence, in which case killing should be completely off the table. Killing the innocent should be verboten, regardless of how painful it was. I think execution should be reserved for specifically those clearly and certainly guilty rather than beyond a reasonable doubt.
