The timing is also too much for me to consider it coincidental. I just don't think it matters much if it was released deliberately or not. The end result is the same either way.
It makes perfect sense if you adopt a "must win no matter what the cost" attitude. The virus was going to set them back economically and they knew that.
So why not spread it to the rest of the world, bring them down too, only now you will be the first to recover, and with your experience and knowledge, you can be the "savior" of the world?
