My concern isn't so much that they allowed Hamas to operate in their building, but that they actively supported Hamas, including tactical intelligence.
Considering what American Journalists will do with Antifa, I can easily imagine that both Al-Jazeera (particularly Al-Jazeera Arabia) and AP were doing it too.
When Israel kills a bunch of kids by bombing a school and then claims hamas were launching rockets from it, I am inclined to believe them.
When Israel bombs a tower block full of media offices after telling everyone inside to evacuate an hour in advance, I don't know how much credibility I assign to any Israeli claims about where Hamas is hiding 'military assets' or what constitutes 'military assets'. Surely, with no Israeli ground force in position, an hour would have given Hamas opportunity to move whatever was in there.
If there were truly Hamas assets in that building that were of any consequence, I think Israel would have just levelled it and not given a fuck about the collateral, because they have a decades long history of doing precisely that, and it has worked very, very well for them. So why would they change?
Occam's razor says they blew up the media building to make it harder for news of what's going on in there to get out while the conflict is still hot.
It’s an attempt to create a level of self government and control. I suspect the theory is “hey, we blast any asset that Hamas uses and eventually people will weed out Hamas.” Given the propaganda techniques in use I think it is unlikely to work.
