They do realize they are turning the UK in to China? We used to criticize how China does not allow free speech and censors online content, now UK is using it as a model? WTF time line are we in?

The standards for illegal speech are: "misinformation" and “adverse psychological impact” with a third party to manage it. Who decides what "adverse psychological impact" is or misinformation for that matter? Both of this things can be applied selectively.

So basically if a muslim says death to the west and kill all whites it will be ok but all life maters will get the wrong sites banned.

And for extra fun, "journalists" are protected against this law.

This has been going on quietly for a while...I get a bit surprised at how much is censored when I turn off my VPN.

So everyone in the UK, get a VPN quickly.

Sure, but that is not a solution. You get a VPN while the censorship is normalized over time. Then they later make vpns that aren’t used for work to be illegal. Since it will have been in law and have a few years of precedent by that time, they are simply better enforcing a law that has already been accepted by society, except for scary extremists like yourself. Better to make the stand here and now, but people will just be mildly annoyed and use a vpn until they come for that too.

You make good points...how to make a stand though?

I wish I knew exactly. Outrage helps. We have to start canceling the other side the way they would cancel us. It is more difficult, and risks being a dangerous purity spiral, not to mention if any even slightly illegal action is taken, the feds (or whoever you would call them across the pond) would be ready to pounce. But politicians (or the wider public culture) will never listen to one side that meekly protests with rational arguments then goes about their business while the left scream like banshees. Be outraged and indignant, but not a raving lunatic. You could inspire others. Make it plain that the left are gestapo and how you view them as pathetic, even if you don’t have the power to stop them. People admire conviction.

The problem is you may lose your job. Just don’t resign, make them fire you. Otherwise you admit guilt. But still, you are jobless. I don’t see a way out of this unless businesses either stop canceling people for having what were once normal, sane beliefs, or there are enough anti-woke businesses to form an alternate economy.

If the bill passes then doesn’t the speech it censors by definition become illegal speech?

"adverse psychological impact” is a very relative term, so it can be applied as someone wished. What they are proposing is twitter level of censoring at a national level.

I wonder if they're trying to open the door to "This speech is not illegal. It is illegal for you to say it though."

That is exactly how I am reading it. It is not illegal or wrong but it causes psychological "harm", the harm of course is neither proven or measured in anyway.

You can say that about immigration, crimes done by immigrants, all gender related issue, everything is going to be labeled as wrong.

And any theory about globalists or government abuse will of course be labeled as misinformation.

For all that I think you focus on this specific issue a little much, yeah, that could easily be used for that.
