When people compare us to the Roman Empire, I think a lot of people forget that Rome lasted WAY longer than its Republic period. Hell, I would argue Rome's Golden Age wasnt even until after the Republic fell.* And much like Rome, America seems to have this unnatural ability to survive events that have killed other nations, and come back stronger.
