You proclaim to not be a believer; yet consent to believe in false authority within the same sentence. You're living a contradiction...athe-ISM represents a belief system you consented to by free will of choice; which puts you under the false authority of others.
I'm an atheist...straight to hell.
An atheist Christian nonetheless...or are you from the atheistic judeo-Christian branch?
I think the insinuation here is that fwoc thinks you're taking the most literal, naïve view of the nature of god, and that if you were to adopt a more flexible, abstracted definition of god you probably would arrive at not being atheist.
In some regards it's very tragic that christianity entails a literal anthromorphized god.
The issue is one didn’t come to that conclusion oneself, you submitted yourself to the false authority of the atheipriests like degrassi tyson, bill nye, or if you’re slightly less stupid, Dawkins and Hitchens
how "following authority" and "not believing in god" are contradictory
In short..gaining authority over self (free will) from reality (god); to then giving authority back to reality (god) contradicts the need for having authority; doesn't it?
There's obviously more going on here....
a) one cannot give authority to anyone; because free will isn't transferable. One can only ignore having the sole authority over self (free will).
b) one does not consent to God when believing. One consents (by free will) to another one; acting in the name of God (in nomine), while offering (by his free will) the term "God", which represents a substitute (idol) for the alleged real authority figure over all reality (God). The believer is tricked to consent to a contract of belief with another one; who offers an idol; a word; a brand. That's what the believers believes in; and what the one offering it then gains the power to act in the name of; to define and redefine by his free will of choice.
The trick is to use suggestion (belief) to get one to consent by free will to ignore free will for the suggestion made by the free will of another...to submit ones free will to another ones free will.
c) to believe represents choice of action; and both action and choice (balance) require motion to work, so the foundation for free will of choice represents balance within motion. That's our reality (motion); defining through its function the fundamental laws of nature.
d) to follow also represents choice of action; but when comprehending motion (reality), then free will of choice has a foundation...ones choice within motion represents adherence to self sustenance (need) or the ignorance thereof (want). In otehr words adhering to reality; or ignoring reality for...fiction aka upheld (affixed) assumptions in ignorance of motion (beliefs).
e) Motion represents authority for the ones within; yet the balance within motion allows the ones to have free will of choice aka the sole authority over oneself. Why? Because both choices (adherence or ignorance) represent two opposite functions of motion...recharge and loss.
Motion represents energy; energy represents the source of ALL information (potentiality), and motion applied to energy represents loss of potentiality. Meanwhile loss of potentiality (motion) represents the need for self segregation of ALL potentiality into individual ONE potential within the momentum (balance) of motion. And within that balance; ONEs free will of choice to adhere to self sustenance represents the increase of ONEs potential, which collectively represents the recharge of potentiality through the unity of potential.
In short...energy creates motion; motion creates energy; both together represent the function of ALL energy; potentiality; information; which is...self sustenance.
We are being tricked to ignore reality (ALL) by believing another ONE that we need to ignore ONEs sole authority over self (free will) for believing; having faith in; submitting to; consenting to a false authority over us (personified; unquestionable deities).
The reality we live in does not use words to communicate information to us; it uses motion to communicate inspiration to our senses (perception), which we then need to adapt to to sustain ONEself within ALL.
The reality we live in does not require us to believe anything; it demands adaptation. It does not judge us in any way; shape or form; it instead offers us limited access (potential) to unlimited resources (potentiality) in exchange for sole authority and responsibility over ONEself within ALL.
That responsibility over free will of choice to adhere to need over want represents morality as defined by motion. Reality does not morally restrict any action; it offers unrestricted use of action; which then creates the consequences of those actions as inspiration and temptation for all others.
I'm an atheist and I think these police need to be sent straight to hell.

They're not, for your conception of god.

Lastly; thank you for the inspiration.
