About little more than a month ago I posted about wanting to do gamedev collab and several brave forum members answered the call.
Here our first proof of concept alpha build for a projectile based arena brawler:
KING OF THE HAT https://acp.itch.io/king-of-the-hat
You can play in your browser without downloading anything. Please play and provide feedback, everything helps.

HOLY SHIT YOU MADE SOMETHING I LOVE YOU
I'm surprised something came of it, and relatively quickly. Usually game collabs end up going nowhere. Congrats.
I've played a few rounds. It's an interesting mechanic. Not sure if arena brawlers in general have longterm appeal but it's something to waste a few minutes.
I feel like the AI cheats when it's going for a hat by going much faster than you can normally move. Then again it might be too easy otherwise.
Pretty nice game. The sandbag or whatever that slides across the floor is a bit OP.
Neat game, played a few rounds and had fun with it.
Only feedback is that camping is an extremely dominant, and basically the only viable, strategy. Get hat, get up high, spam shoot at the only direction they can come at you and you'll win nearly everytime. especially with bombs. I'd make the sides wrap around like Pacman does so all spots have at least two sides of attack. And maybe make the blobs smaller, so that way you can skillfully jump over bullets as another viable movement.
Oh shit, we should totally do a game competition on this.
I think it is a bit too early for it atm, need either to get local coop ( which will limit the amount that can play due to needing to either stream/be in same place) or some sort of score system.
If you insist.
I suppose we could also do story telling adventure games, those might be easier.
Do you mean a gaming competition on story telling adventure games?
Yes, maybe some sort of 'best run' kinda thing. Like an iorn man mode or something.
I want to get something working with qtox and a server so local coop works as online play, but that could take a fair amount of time and experimentation to get working well enough.
Sweet! Glad it made it to this point. Sorry I wasn't able to contribute all that much, but will keep trying when I can.
Maybe next time. Congrats, anyway, you cleared the first dev hurdle: getting anything done at all.
What browser are you running?
Palemoon 27.9.4 (32-bit), he should probably check that it got webgl enabled in about:config or about:support under graphics for it.
Firefox 51.0.1. I'm not familiar with unity web games, so unsure if ublock could interfere.
ublock might prevent some functions that itch is using to launch, I can send you a link to the game archive if you want to try to run it locally
I ran the game in chrome and waterfox both of which were running ublock so im not sure thats it
Sure, send me a link.
link appears to work, unzip and open the html in a browser
https://rapidshare.io/1iFK/alpha1.zip
Getting same error in my firefox.
Is what I get in pale moon 27.9.4, after enabling javascript for local files.
So, I checked, and my version of firefox can definitely handle webgl. Spent a little time researching, and found that webassembly really can't run normally in firefox versions below 52. The workaround is above my technical understanding.
Fun concept, I love it.
ty for trying it, let us know if you have any suggestions
My compilation of feedback.
I'm gonna try to do a speedrun soon.
Dude, I stopped playing the game and tried to go back to writing and I just keep going back to play it. I'm becoming a god at it too.
thank you very much for the compliment and feedback
if you would like to help shape the direction of development or even join in you can join us on our forum - https://kia2gameproject.freeforums.net/
we are in the process of choosing a theme/look now and also compiling the features we want for the beta release
Yeah, I plan to see what I can do to help, especially since I'm a freelancer writer. And I've had ideas for a story-heavy (to the point of it being kind of like a choose your own adventure novel) character-driven game for a while now.
Damn, dude, that's actually really fun. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't expect it to be that great. But this has serious promise, I think.
Can confirm, it's between easy and just right.
Nice bot, btw do you have a link to the html5 construct game white knight fury?
It was based off this old nes game and makes fun of regressive leftists with the player character being a delusional "white knight".
Also, I should remind everyone itch.io defended BLM and engaged in terrorist financing
Thanks for playing! Let us know if you have any criticism or feedback so we can incorporate it into future builds.
Kung Fu master was an arcade game before it hit the nes but its a fun concept that sort of combined with a rhythm game in 1 finger death punch
As for itch I'm not planning on using that as our final hosting but also I dont know of other ad-free hosting at this time where I can make a relatively anonymous account. If you know of any let me know. If I cant find any I'll probably just spring for some web space before we do our final release.
...ssl.hwcdn.net refused to connect
Is that the itch.io page or the forums? If itch.io doesnt work for you can you try the zip from the fileshare link I posted in the comments?
the itch page. F12 network tab says index.html failed to load. Found your link in comments. Managed to host it statically locally and have a go (if just try to open the file in browser, won't work, at least in brave). Game is performant, but too hard for me!
ty for playing
we went with the webgl/html deployment because that is the easiest way to get people to give the prototypes a try
if you have any criticism or feedback let me know and we can incorporate it into a future build
No feedback on the game mechanics yet after my first round, but it works in Firefox 78ESR with uBlock Origin.
Ty for trying it
