It wasn't "a couple extra excavators".
They brought in a couple suction dredgers. Those things are capable of moving material a lot faster than power shovels.
From what I saw they pulled it with tugs and bulldozers, dug with bulldozers, sucked with dredgers, AND had a tide in their favor.
That level of effort and luck probably wasn’t even a thought when initially scoping the timeframe. Pretty impressive work
