Modern militaries don't just flatten countries and crush resistances anymore. It's why you pay millions in tax dollars for goat herders to run circles around your army. Now imagine the RoE in a nation you intend on actually ruling over and owning when all is said and done. How would that possibly be more brutal? Not to mention the sheer amount of weapons in the hands of civilians in this country. If there is ever a widespread armed insurrection in this country, the current governmental apparatus is finished.
Oh b-b-but muh tanks and F-16s. Those can't stand on street corners and enforce curfews. Those can't break up cells. The government does not have the manpower to forcibly enact their will on the population, and that's the secret they never want to leak into collective consciousness. Even assuming all current military and police will 100% side with the government over the people, they're still outnumbered and outarmed.
