I'm not sure it's optics anymore but unwillingness to sacrifice themselves. If there's any chance of this being stopped via political means you need the right wing politicians to put their political capital on the line (and perhaps their actual capital too). If they fail, the left has shown they will be coming after them relentlessly and will give them no quarter. It's total career suicide. It could possibly be successful with the right people and numbers putting it on the line, but the prime time for a lot of that has passed.
Then you have the rest of us. I have no political capital. The extent of my political influence is to contact politicians, vote, and bitch about it online. The only other options I have to deal with the government is to either attempt to build political capital (i.e. become a politician) or forcibly overthrow the standing government. Both in particular require a large surrounding group of support and would be destined to fail as a singular effort.
This is why we need to organize in some meaningful fashion and also why every attempt of the Right to organize and discuss the current nightmare gets shut down online or dogpiled by Feds. The Right's only chance of halting this dystopia is to communicate and organize, so the Left uses its power to stop that when at all possible.
Not sure how we circumvent that, but I'm open to suggestions.
Hmmmm....
It's tough, but you have to start underground first. All kinds of dissidents and freakshows managed to find one another before the internet made communication and fringe outreach much easier; it'll be a lesson we need to learn again.
Also, we'll need to lose the phones; communicate only person-to-person, or via hand-delivered written message only; direct communication can't be hacked.
Also, forming at the local level and expanding outward to create a bulwark against Fed interference is a must.
Well that's the thing isn't it? With everyone losing their minds over Covid and shutting everything down they've managed to largely cut off avenues for communicating person-to-person. It's kind of brilliant in how sinister it is.
