I'm fine with the same sort of forced lack of tradition and continuity being imposed on NYC as they impose on the rest of the country. If their new flag doesn't have a rainbow and look more like a corporate logo than a flag (like Mississippi's new flag does) I'll be disappointed.

That's more appropriate for the Seattle flag, TBH.
Rainbow flag with the logos for Chase, Citi, JP Morgan, NYSE, etc... would be perfect. The more it resembles a soccer uniform or a racecar, the better.
