Napoleon's return from Elba

There's no way in hell it would happen, but how wild would it be if Trump walked up to the soldiers surrounding DC and said, "If you want to kill your President - Here I am." and the soldiers let him pass and joined him in walking to the White House. One can dream.

I forget where I read it, but it was something to the effect of authoritarians across time and space generally have a certain playbook, or kneejerk reaction when confronted with issues. One of those is calling out a large military presence when threatened by the people.

So on the one hand, the Establishment feels threatened and wants to use the military to protect them and intimidate any would-be protestor/agitator plebeians from disrupting the inauguration of their candidate. There are around 20-30,000 fully armed soldiers on ground depending on your source, which is more than some nation's actual militaries and more than enough to warrant a named operation.

On the other hand, a bunch of the alt-tech news sites have been saying that the Dems, and by extension, the Establishment, are demanding things like voter history checks and social media screening, basically loyalty tests, because they're paranoid about populist-right supporters. Some have been talking about feeling threatened by populist-right Congressmen and Senators. And they can only use Guardsmen because of 1. the Posse Comitatus Act, and 2. states friendly to the Dems would be more willing to lend their state guards than states friendly to the Rep./populist-right. Either way, all of this makes the Establishment look extremely paranoid about populist-right sympathizers, and really damages how we look on the world stage maybe more than the 6th did.

And somehow they still have the hubris to talk about 'free and fair elections' and 'freedom of speech' like they didn't just silence the most powerful man in the world and halt any and all investigations into voter irregularities.

What I am interested in is what the states that joined Texas and called "foul" are going to do in these coming years. Because with how hard they have been fighting all this, I imagine they are going to make sure that the Feds trying to do anything is going to be the equivalent of pulling teeth, and they will just point to New York and Cali refusing to carry out federal laws in other matters to justify themselves. For instance, I could see Biden trying to do some sort of New Assault Weapons Ban, only for states like Texas, Florida, Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, etc to say "Nope, sorry. Gun sanctuary zone. You want it? Send the ATF to TRY and take it." and there would literally not be enough resources to pull it off. And thats ignoring that the courts might still go our way in some cases (though I am now less confident about the Supreme Court than I was before). And considering a lot of those states have also done fairly well at surviving Covid since a lot of them avoided locking down, they would likely be in a good position to fight that bullshit. Hell, I wouldnt be surprised if when Biden tries to do some BS with illegal immigration, you dont see Texas start going rogue and doing its own thing to make sure that they dont end up there. What I am getting at is: This is far from hopeless, people saying its hopeless need to step back and breath a little bit. And I imagine the next few years will be quite the site to behold.

Does Texas not have the right to form it's own border patrol and arrest any and all illegal immigrants and at least imprison them on state charges?

Fuck the fed.

10th amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Now, while the feds love to wipe their collective asses with the constitution on a regular basis, there are plenty of situations where a state exercises powers that run counter to federal law - illegal alien sanctuaries and cannabis are two well-known if controversial ones.

What can the feds really do if Texas starts being more proactive in guarding its own border? Probably arrest whichever overweight official they'll send to try and stop the state from exercising its own security measures.
