I wonder if recent events will cause nations that normally depend on the US to distance themselves and become more nationalist. Or, worst case, they turn to China.
Obidenbama already broke a defense treaty held with the Philippines when they failed to take action against Chinese intrusion.
Biden becoming President basically just pushed all SEA government to lean further and further towards China. We already had issues with Korea, now they're going to escalate.
Man Americans are so fucking stupid, and the media is so incredibly bad it's amazing. Nobody has any idea what the hell they're doing or talking about.
It is at least fun watching the horror slowly creep into people's faces as I explain to them with things like above just how bad a Biden presidency is for America. The best is when I point out that his entire cabinet is bankers and lobbyists, and then note that Biden was also one of the major voices opposed to the single payer option in Obamacare.
I can't really give you a direct link to an article because they all either really suck or don't give a complete picture. You can Google it but I wouldn't recommend the articles. The first article is an NYT article written by a gonzo wannabe that goes on way too fucking long about shit that doesn't matter, for example.
Basically the gist is this:
The US and the Philippines signed a joint defense pact in 1951.
I'm sure you've heard of the consternation over the "South China Sea?" Basically China lays claim to their famous "nine dash" region which pretty much claims all territorial waters of other states in the region.
Starting around 2010 China began making movements into occupying those waters which they claim. It came to a standoff sometime in 2013 at a place we call "Scarborough Shoal" where Philippine and Chinese warships were both deployed.
Wasn't just Philippines, by the way. Took over islands claimed by pretty much every other state in the region.
Obama's State Department negotiates a ceasefire and a stand down agreement, where both parties would leave while negotiations were ongoing.
Philippines left, China stayed. The US just waved it off and didn't care.
Funnily enough Obama the very next year signed an updated defense pact... and almost immediately abandoned it. China continued fortifying their position on those islands and today they're all military bases with missile installations.
He basically showed to the world that the US is a paper tiger. This combined with his administration actively funding and opening up economic channels with China really, really, really fucked us.
It started under Clinton, by the way, continued under Bush, and was worsened under Obama. Generally it was all the same exact people acting as advisers saying that trade with China was good.
I'm not surprised there aren't great articles with how the media is. I know someone who is somehow a Taiwanese nationalist and has extreme TDS, and thinks things will be fine or even improve with Biden. I've asked his opinion about the rising tensions in the South China Sea, he somehow thinks Biden will turn it around. I don't know how often he's in Taiwan, but I know he's been in the US for 20+ years now. I may try bringing up this pact next time.
Sadly I think Taiwan's days are numbered, I was reading a 4chan post about how Taiwan has all of these advantages over China but it also seemed dependent on international support for Taiwan, which I increasingly doubt will be present under Biden.
Like Trump, López Obrador thinks traditional media outlets are biased against him, and like Trump, the Mexican president has used the term “fake news,” or Spanish variants of it.
Way to prove him wrong by slamming him as he opposes censorship. "OMG MEXICAN BLUMPF!!!!"
That sad, sad feeling when you realize that another country's president has more respect for your most precious right than an entire half of your own country.
That sad, sad feeling when you realize that another country's president has more respect for your most precious right than an entire half of your own country.
And not just any other country, but a notoriously corrupt country run by cartels.
I have been browing around on LBRY checking out the decentralized video platform and some guy who I guess is a bitcoin anarchist or something on there was telling everyone they should have moved to Mexico a year or two ago. I'm not sure he was wrong. Corrupt government that's anti censorship and leaves people alone if you leave the cartel alone vs corrupt government that wants control of most elements of your life.
I was in denial for a few years now. I knew America was not doing well, but I held out slim hope the recent change in direction might be able to do lasting change, and the movement would continue on. I had no clue just how bad it would get; I think very few people did, considering how fast everything happened. Some might have predicted this shit over the span of a decade, or something, but we went from a failing and corrupt America that still was perhaps the most free country in the world, with a huge contrast between us and, say, China, to complete authoritarianism in a matter of months. The gap between us and China is barely there anymore and, if the current pace continues, won't be there in a year or two, maybe less. Genocide and camps aren't even out of the question.
I held on to America's past, and glorious founding, and excellent ideas. I held on for ages. But it's become apparent that isn't enough. You could pick almost any corrupt or totalitarian place, and compare the USA right now. We might still sometimes squeak out into the lead in some instances, but the gap isn't what it used to be. Some corrupt and authoritarian counties may even come out ahead of the US now. America has fallen. America will continue to fall, unless some major shift occurs.

Regional internet social networks, I hope.
Possibly a meta-social-media aggregator sites like Dissenter in later years.
Already has.

Do you have like for them breaking the defense treaty? I'd like to send that to someone

At this point we're basically fucked.

Based Mexico.
Based socialist. That's probably the first and last time I'll say that.

Aaaand Mexican Blumpf is right, just like the other Blumpf lmao.

America ain't doing so hot right now...

It's a perfect representation of C.S. Lewis's thoughts on the tyranny of a robber baron vs the tyranny of a moral busybody.
Sad, isn't it?

Oh, now they think a few corporations having a monopoly on global communications is a bad idea.
A broken clock is right twice a day. For L*pez this is just another stage to perform on.
Multiple doses of lead to the noggin' might just be the right amount of medicine for this clown.
