When laws are ignored, yes.
"Don't worry so much about money. Worry about if people start deciding to kill reporters. That's a quote." -Samaael al'Hyedi.
The mere threat of his existence will keep the journos in line. After all, he gets away with every shooting he's ever perpetrated
“Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms” ― Robert A. Heinlein, Starship Troopers
This is one of the lessons I have grown to despise the most as I grow older. Violence is an essential tool. One that must be employed sparingly and with care, but it is one that simply cannot be forsaken.
Journalism is a foil to power structures. That is, opposition journalists are. Throughout the ages the journalist profession has been split into those supporting some certain power, and those on the fringes opposing it.
In the time of Thomas Paine, or even earlier the pamphleteers during the English Civil War, or even the people supporting Martin Luther against the pope, they were what we could call "journalists" actively opposing the power structures of their time.
What we tend to forget, however, is that during all those times, 95% of all journalists supported power.
We rarely hear about the people supporting the British Monarchy in the colonies, even though they outnumbered Thomas Paine and the anti-government journalists by huge amounts, especially in the 1750's/1760's. Same for all the people supporting the Pope against Luther.
Have their statues pulled down.
