Australian government still won't stand up to China or limit immigration though.
Immigration in 2020/21 is going to be down 85% according to a statement from the govt earlier this year. The October budget saw quotas for skilled migration reduced by about 50%, but in actuality, the number of permanent visas being issued is far below what the quotas are.
China is ratcheting up the pressure and imposing more tarriffs becuase the govt is not backing down on their call for an independent investigation into the origins of the Corona virus. Australia is taking China to the WTO over the barley tariffs but I don't expect anything to come of it.
So it seems they are doing both?
Cool. I got used to the Australian government bending over backwards for china for so long I totally missed them rediscovering their spines. Are they finally treating China as rivals and enemies?
If it were an Australian soldier holding a knife to the throat of an Australian child for not wearing a mask I'd believe it.
Appropriate response would be to block Twitter in Austrailia.
If they want to drop their little warning labels on coronavirus or trump tweets, they've got no excuse not to do the same here. None whatsoever.
