Imagine being a kid, knowing that your mom is carrying your sibling, and then being forced to call your unborn brother a fetus.

Wait until he gets a bit older and realizes that that works backwards to him as well. Might as well just say "Remember son, you weren't human to us until we had to sign the paperwork."
