There is nothing like being an absolute underdog to give you strength and motivation.

Without it, I would have succumbed to my despair long ago and probably just ended it. But sheer petty hate kept me going long enough to turn life around to not want to escape. Many days all that kept me alive was "I ain't giving them what they want. I'll make them regret not killing me directly when they had the chance."

Basically, the obsessive hate can really keep a man going, drive him to not only better himself but hope to better the world, entirely out of complete hate for those who hate him.
