Carano plays a character who doesn't hate men or make them all pointless, so I can see why they find her problematic. Her making Daisy Ridley look like a twig and having men not hate the character destroys their whole narrative as well. The books used Jihad. When you look at history you have an insane amount of Muslim invasions, and a handful of Crusades. Frank Herbert who was definately NOT Christian and if anything was anti religion, wasn't trying to push his own biases on people. This kind of change just makes me wonder what else they will change in the books.
The series is about not trusting leaders at all. It's not left or right, it's anti big government. Is that going to get changed into only trusting the right kind of leader? Will we just get another fake Dune film like we did in Lynch's Dune (he didn't get final cut and regrets that and says he sold out), where all anti leader sentiment was removed and Paul was a benevolent superhero? Or will they change Leto II and Ghanima later on. They have already gender swapped Kynes. What about Ghanima and Leto? Then what? Does it just end there for the Hollywood rape of more art where they could infer that a woman leading = utopia?
So what do you think. Is this Denis changing Dune just enough to get it's anti leader message under Hollywood's nose? Or has he bent the knee. We have a show Dune: The Sisterhood coming as well.
I love the Director's work and I love Dune. I would like to think the main message of the books will still be there, but I have heard this bedtime story before.
