News was already unbelievable due to how much they poison the information. Twist it, bend it, omit facts or completely fabricated stories and scenarios. Crafted narratives.
A.I has already reached a point where it's incredibly easy to fool everyone. From hyper realistic videos all the way down to grainy, low quality videos you can make anything.
A video of missile hitting a building at night on an old cellphone? Easy. A short segment interviewing "people" at the scene? easy. anything.
The stories they fabricate now have more reliable imagery to accompany the scam.
You can clone a voice in under 10 seconds, replicate someones likeness from 1 picture with passable accuracy, and you can even go overboard with that when it comes to video. multiple frames of 1 person.
A.I Is also being used to write articles now and youtube video scripts. So the layman who doesn't know a dam thing about persuasion, is now using master level tactics via A.I. Methods which are scientifically proven to influence viewers whether they are aware of it or not. there is no "hah, not me!" that's just ignorance and ego speaking.
All of these tools are even publicly accessible. It would be foolish to think that news organizations / propaganda organizations wouldn't be using them.
Now despite that. Despite knowing that you literally can't trust anything you see or hear anymore online or on tv. People still eat up the stories they are presented at face value and don't even question it. Sure, many of them are unaware of the realities i mention. But many of them are even the "smart" people who still fall for it hook line and sinker. Every single time.
Because thinking for themselves is a chore. having to verify or investigate every trash news piece you come across, isn't worth the time or effort.

It was bad before.
It's worse now.
Going forward it's going to become completely indiscernible.
Where the only clues and hints will have to do with logical reasoning. That's only if the ones puppeting the situation screw up.
Fictional example: If Israel's anti missile defense system shot down a barrage of 30-50 in the past. All missiles fired. but there's a new video years later in that same city where buildings are getting hammered by slow, spaced out missiles. Somethings not right there.
