These "singles mixers", similar to online dating, are a form of desperation, especially for women. There are exceptions, but typically any decent-looking woman who is friendly, clean, and normal will get all sorts of attention at any party, bar, or any other social event. There is no reason for a woman to go out of her way to signal that she is available. She should be getting a decent amount of attention even if she is out of the house 3 days a week. There are exceptions, but that's just that, exceptions.
The truth is the people that show up to "singles mixers" and dating apps are indeed a different pool of people from the normal population. My female colleagues don't believe me when I tell them that 90+% of the time, the man you meet online is not the type of man that will approach you in person. The few decent men on those are run off quickly and become demotivated by the hellscape of dating apps, the rest that remain are there for a reason.
My buddies on the other hand know that online dating and any "dating event" is trash for the quality of women that will show up, and do their best to remain realistic.

I actually know a woman who this happened to. Husband came out as gay after a few years of marriage. She was a nice woman who had pretty low self-esteem and very little experience with men. She was a great beard in that regard. Me personally I could tell her husband was fruity immediately.
I checked out some of this youtuber's videos. Her husband does give off homosexual vibes, albeit subtle ones. If you are in a hyper-liberal nerd culture, as she was, it can be difficult to tell who is gay or who is just a soyboy. Look at Chris Tyson for example.
