They should rather concern themselves with the possibility physical removal.
If you deny the people justice, they'll seek their own.
And given the choice, a whole lot of fathers wouldn't hesitate to risk spending the rest of their life in prison, if that were the price for protecting their children.
If the system is incapable of rendering justice, people will make their own. Criminalizing self-defense will not get rid of it.
It'll just make the "Shoot, shovel, and shut up" approach more popular...
