SEEMS like there were no threats made towards 9News in any of these videos, and apparently he's unconnected to Antifa (so far). So where did they hire this security guard from, and why would they need armed security at peaceful protests?
To pull some shit out of my ass, the guard could be antifa and the news crew knows it. Why wouldn't antifags pick up security licenses? They are normally a couple hundred bucks in classes.
Hard to say, the action happened out of frame but there's something there, maybe a draw? You can also hear someone say, "Put it back(?)" just before the shot. Might have been the victim trying to deescalate.
If you watch the video though, the mace and the shot are within a second of each other.
That alone is strange.
No way a person is drawing and shooting that quick.
I don't see anyone saying anything about that, though.
But I suspect the gun was already drawn, then the mace.

And he'd only taken out the mace because he was threatened by another guy, who was trying to provoke him. An agitator was in his face shoving at him and an older man, yelling "shoot me, shoot me, mace me, mace me" at the man who was shot seconds later. The victim disengages, and then it seems the shooter lunges for his mace can which, as you say, was not being brandished. Victim slaps the shooter away, and takes three or so steps back. The shooter draws his weapon while someone apparently tells him to put it back. The victim is still retreating, and then both fire on each other while the victim continues to retreat.
People are trying to make it out like this big bad militia guy was angry and aggressive, but in the span of a minute he was trying to walk away from two different violent confrontations seemingly started by other people against him.
"A private security guard who was hired by 9NEWS is the suspect detained by DPD. It has been the practice of 9NEWS for a number of months to hire private security to accompany staff at protests."

Edit: Update via Tim Pool, guy was a leftist.

It looks like you're probably right - the shooter, Matthew Doloff, is a former Occupy Wall Street activist.
Probably because most of them are convicted felons and drug users, none of which will pass a background check.

He spent $$$ on that. It has an optic.
Another angle with events leading up to the shooting. You can hear someone, probably the shooter, chamber a round around 43s.

It sounds like he started fucking with the gun at 36s, mag?

Contrary to the movies, drawing a gun is almost entirely silent, especially in a noisy crowd. It could have been a failed attempt to rack it too.
Supposedly, a Trump supporter maced a lefty and got shot in front of cops.

You can hear gun sounds in some of the other clips here well before the shot.
The Mace dude was holding the mace in his hand well before the shooting, but not really brandishing it.

I didn't see that, I only saw the victim holding the Mace at his side (not brandishing) while that BLM type shouted at him.
Agreed, seems like he drew on the guy who maced him in panic.
