Whew, boy. I bet they're going to get some shit for this.
To me, this looks like pure optics. I bet once you play the game that the story will probably be incredibly sympathetic to the communist ideals, with the twist being that the capitalists were the bad guys all along.
I just can't see it going any other way in our current climate. Maybe I'm just being a pessimist, but I find it unlikely.

A stand-in is too subtle. They might just use the man himself, since Trump was alive during the '60s and '70s. Claim young Trump is a historical figure and therefore it's totes okay to have him as a Russian spy at 18 years old. It only took 53 years and the collapse of the Soviet Union for Drumph to enact his master plan.

Bingo. This is marketing.

Activision suddenly getting red pilled? Yeah right. After they sucked China dick and threw a blanket party for the Pro-Democracy movement in Hong Kong?

If they're sucking Chinese dick this could just be another play to nurture more internal conflict within the USA.

I don't think so. In a previous Black ops game they showed a Soviet Gulag and they are generally pretty scathing towards socialist/communist regimes and very pro-west.
