They weren't traumatized by Charlottesville, that's all an act. It was a major victory for them. The left has been trying to shift the focus to 'right-wing domestic terrorism' for years, trying to make it out as if fringe KKK nuts were the greatest threat to the country. Trying to make it so anyone tied to those beliefs were subject to maximum extrajudicial punishment.
'Coincidentally' they have also been trying to portray standard conservative views once held by mainstream Democrats not even twenty years ago as outright white supremacy. The goal is forcible and ultimately violent suppression of conservative ideas with the justification that they're exactly the same as burning crosses on a black family's lawn in the 1930s.
I still find it hilarious how Charlottesville lives rent free in their heads. A handful of edgelords went for a short walk and the commies went nuts.
