Or how Star Wars Rogue One featured two prominent Chinese actors because... well Disney needs that sweet sweet commie blood money. Or how John Boyega was removed from posters because China hates black people.
And still the movies didn't do so well (At least not the trilogy, no idea about Rogue One) because Chinese audiences didn't grew up seeing Star Wars everywhere and have no attachment to it, so they had no issue saying "Yeah, the movies aren't very good, and the actors are ugly".
Hiring Chinese actors and partnering with Chinese studios is the way I see it happen the most. This video goes over some of that pretty well.

Meh. Movies in general suck nowadays. Been a long time since I could say I watched a good movie. Hollywood is in desperate need of competition.
Unfortunately, the indie side of films does little to interest me, considering the common genres that fill it.

i call it red dawn principle, they actively changed the "Baddies" to be north korea so it didnt offend markets it was trying to reach.
the result: a totally unbelievable shitfest which was so bad i turned it off after 10mins, and didnt give them a fucking penny.
