So glad to see KIA2 over on .win. I never posted on the reddit site because I use my real name (relic of the early days when it didn't matter) and didn't want to get fired or murdered.
One question, what happens when this site gets attacked by the ctrl-left tech company assholes? I guess I mean I'm expecting someday the site to appear "down" and how will I know it's not just my DNS or whatever (sorry I don't know how it works). Or: what should I do now to make that less likely to happen? E.g., I don't use Chrome, but not sure if Edge Chromium is any better.
Congrats & thank you to the people who created this site
In my opinion, I think Cloudflare may be the weak spot. I can foresee a shitty false flag followed by coordinated calls in Twitter that CF is "helping hate" or some other dramatic line like that. Then it'd be open season on the site for DDOS. Fun fact! Many other companies that offer DDOS protection actually rent the service from Cloudflare itself and resell it and thus would not be able to provide services either!
Fun!
Setting up an nginx reverse proxy is easy, the problem is having anywhere near the amount of edge nodes to absorb the Gbps of traffic that Cloudflare can.
Hell, I can even write a faster and more efficient reverse proxy than just nginx, but none of that helps if it's not running on tons of nodes on every backbone and in every datacenter.
lol 8chan lost their DDoS protection the same way.
Just because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it's never going to.
Engineering and faith don't mix.
It's hard (and expensive) to run your own DDOS protection. That's why everybody uses Cloudflare.
