Jews have been saying this shit for like 10 years now. It's not "committed suicide" it's "died by suicide" as if the suicide fell out of the sky and hit them in the head rather than being an action the deceased actually took.
It's a rhetorical trick designed to shift blame away from the person that actually did the deed.
"Committed" is a weird word. We mostly only use it for crimes. No one is ever said to "commit a walk" or "commit a shit."
I guess we use it for suicide because suicide feels like a crime, although obviously it isn't, since you can't punish a corpse.

It's likely because one commits sins and suicide is a sin. Commit adultery, commit treason, commit fratricide, etc.
