It might be true that it would take billions of years to bridge the gap if you rejected the concept of sexual reproduction and relied entirely on mutation caused by radiation damage.
But, you know, that was the entire point of sexual reproduction - to speed up the rate of evolution. If evolution weren't real, there would be zero reason for any species to have sex.
